UPDATE 7/30/24: Our current openings are for Saturdays at the main desk only.

The Helen Kate Library has a strong tradition of dedicated volunteers, which has been significant to the success of our beloved library. Helen Kate relies upon the support of volunteers to provide quality service to our community.

Circulation Volunteer

As a volunteer, you will work directly with the community at our front desk, greeting patrons, checking out materials, and answering questions. You can make a real difference in people’s lives, and meet other volunteers and staff who are also passionate about the mission of the library – to bring lifelong learning, discovery, and joy to the communities that we serve. It’s a fun and rewarding opportunity for anyone who loves their local library!

Minimum time commitment: 6 months, approximately 2 hours per week. The library’s volunteer positions require in-depth training, and therefore, we are not able to offer seasonal volunteer opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age (main desk) or 14 years of age (children’s library)
  • Submit a Volunteer Application
  • Interview with the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Successfully complete all onboarding background clearances

We are seeking volunteers who are able to:

  • Serve as a representative of the library
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere where we make our resources and services accessible to all
  • Strive to provide excellence in customer service
  • Protect patron privacy and confidentiality
  • Proficiently type, use a computer, and assist the public with technology needs
  • Multi-task and follow library procedures
  • Proficiently use a cash register and credit card reader (main desk)
