The Helen Kate Furness Free Library has served and enhanced our community for over 120 years. Each year many members of our community support a significant portion of the library’s programs and operations through their private contributions.
Our generous donors can support Helen Kate now and in future generations, too, by including the library in their will.
A planned gift – any deferred gift intended to benefit the future of the Helen Kate Furness library – can also provide you with valuable tax benefits.
Gift plans that allow you to make a meaningful future gift to the Library include:
- Bequest in Your Will: You may make a gift of cash, stocks and bonds or a percentage of your estate. Your estate attorney, accountant, or other financial advisor can assist you in these matters.
- IRA Charitable Distribution: Donors over 70 ½ can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from an IRA to The Helen Kate Furness Free Library. A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to the library. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year and excludes the amount donated from taxable income.
- Life Insurance: You may designate the Library as beneficiary of all or a portion of the proceeds of your policy.
Your attorney, accountant, or other financial advisor can provide you with more details on these and other types of gifts and strategies for giving.
